He is a Board member of NASDAQ-listed PDS Biotech Inc. Ilian holds a PhD from Cambridge University’s Judge Business School, and a Master’s in Economics from the Witwatersrand University.

Eos Advisory

The Eos Innovation Fund (EIS) from Eos Advisory features a portfolio of science & technology investments, with a focus on improving lives, both in healthcare and environmental sustainability. Eos invests across the UK, but only in companies whose addressable market is global. A bias to Scotland is because of a global reputation for innovation and university research, a strong network and first access to relevant deal flow, as well as competitive valuations and lower comparative cost to scale companies.

Mark Beaumont, Partner: Mark became a Partner at Eos Advisory in 2019 and has helped lead the business through a period of significant growth. Mark spent the first chapter of his career building teams around sporting success and is publicly known as an athlete and BBC broadcaster. He still holds the 18,000-mile circumnavigation cycling record in a time of 78 days. Mark is Patron for Entrepreneurial Scotland, Honorary President for Scottish Student Sport, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Love Ventures

Love Ventures is a UK-based venture capital firm, specialising in transformative early-stage investments across Fintech, Future of Work, and Consumer Technology sectors. The firm draws on the exceptional track record of its co-founding brothers, Marcus and Adrian Love, whose venture capital acumen was demonstrated early on with their prescient angel investment in Revolut, now a global fintech leader. Love Ventures focuses on pre-seed and seed-stage opportunities, where its expertise and network can add maximum value.

Marcus Love, General Partner: Marcus spent a decade in Paris at Cap Gemini’s consulting practice before gaining operational experience in startups and sales roles. Returning to London in 2005, he spent 14 years in the City providing global equity research to fund managers, developing deep insights into what makes businesses thrive. In 2015, Marcus partnered with his brother Adrian to begin angel investing. Together, they built an impressive portfolio of 20 companies and cultivated a successful angel syndicate. This experience laid the foundation for Love Ventures, launched in March 2020.

River Capital

fund:AI from River Capital is the North’s first dedicated AI, Machine Learning and Data Science Fund. Artificial Intelligence is a once in a generation opportunity. River Capital’s team have deep sector experience in data-rich businesses, having invested, advised, and founded some of the North’s most important AI companies.

Dr Marc d’Abbadie, Head of Venture & COO: Marc is a venture capitalist with more than 15 years’ experience. A published Ph.D scientist and named inventor on revenue generating patents, Marc led the management buyout of SPARK Impact in September 2016, which was subsequently operationally merged with River Capital. He has managed several funds and has been involved with multiple exits, including trade sales, IPOs and to private equity.

David Walters, Investment Director: David is recognised nationally as a member of the DataIQ100, the most influential data and analytics practitioners in the UK, and has operationally led Northern AI practices. David was one of the first UK private equity Digital and Data Directors, when appointed by Northedge Capital in 2016 helping its portfolio companies to unlock value in data assets. Prior to his venture capital career, David was part of several PE-backed management teams that successfully exited to trade by placing data at the heart of their organisations.

Vala

Vala’s Better Ventures EIS is open and expects to invest into at least six companies by 5 April 2025 for any applications received by 28 March. The Better Ventures EIS has adopted the FCA’s label “Sustainability Improvers” under the new SDR regime and targets investments into companies that commit meaningfully and tangibly to becoming more sustainable, or becoming ‘better’. Vala’s commitment to making capital contingent on change isn’t just because it is the right thing for society but because it believes it is a commercial imperative – companies that deliberately focus on operating and trading more sustainably will be more valuable than those that don’t.

James Faulkner, Managing Director: James Faulkner is the Managing Director at Vala and has responsibility for the day-to-day oversight of Vala. James has enjoyed a successful career in sales and marketing for over 30 years primarily within financial services with PwC, ABN Amro and Dun & Bradstreet but with spells in manufacturing and consulting too. James is a Chartered Member of the CISI and holds the Level 4 Investment Advice Diploma.
